Jamie Asaka
Head Coach
Claremont College lacrosse player and team captain, Jamie Asaka was the head coach of the Lakeside School girl’s lacrosse team from 2005-2014. After four years off, Jamie returned as the head coach at Lakeside in 2019 and continues to work at Lakeside School as the Director of Family and Student Support. While at Lakeside, Asaka coached the Lions to six state championships and for her efforts she was named the 2010 and 2019 Washington high school girls coach of the year. Aside from coaching at Lakeside, Jamie Asaka has coached both Washington State U-15 and U-19 teams at the US National Tournament in addition to her work with Puget Sound Select. For all of her exceptional work as a coach, she was inducted into the US Lacrosse - Washington Chapter - Hall of Fame in 2013.
Tami Tommila
Head Coach
Langara College lacrosse standout and former Canadian National Team member Tami Tommila is the head coach of the Bainbridge Island girls lacrosse team. While at Bainbridge, Tommila coached the Spartans to seven state championships. For her efforts she was named the 2005 and 2018 Washington high school girls coach of the year. As an athlete, she competed in three World Cup tournaments, serving as Canadian team captain in 1997. Since 2011, she has been serving on the WSLA board as a high school division rep. A tireless champion of the sport, she runs a Bainbridge youth lacrosse camp for kindergarten through high school aged players and organizes off-season competition opportunities for girls. For all of her exceptional work as a coach, she was inducted into the US Lacrosse - Washington Chapter - Hall of Fame in 2010.
Catherine Rodriguez
Coach
Catherine Rodriguez, or as most of the players call her, C-Rod, has been coaching for PSS since 2015. A native of Bellevue, WA, she was a founding member of the Lake Sammamish Lacrosse Club, and an original member of Puget Sound Select in 2006. A three time captain, she was named to the 2nd Team All-State in 2004, and 1st Team All-State in 2005, 2006, and 2007 and was named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2006 and 2007. She went on to play four years at Syracuse University under head coach Gary Gait. She began her collegiate career as a low defender, making 12 appearances as a freshman, playing in all games and starting 6 as a sophomore, and starting 15 of 16 games as a junior, earning All-Big East Second team honors. Her senior season she was moved to midfield, tallying 26 points on 24 goals and 2 assists, earning All-Big East First Team honors as well as being named to the All- Northeast Region Second Team. Catherine was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll all four years while attending Syracuse. She was also named Big East Academic All-Star in 2008, and named to the Big East All-Academic Team in both 2009 and 2010. While at Syracuse, her team won one Big East Conference Championship in 2008 and made Final Four appearances in 2008 (Syracuse’s first Final Four) and 2010. After graduating in 2011, she attended physical therapy school at Chapman University in Orange, CA, where she helped coach the DIII Chapman lacrosse team for one and a half seasons. She graduated with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014, and moved back to Washington in 2015. She is currently working at an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Issaquah, WA. For her success as a player, she was the first and only current female player to be inducted into the US Lacrosse - Washington Chapter - Hall of Fame in 2021. She is still an active player for the Seattle Women’s Lacrosse team.
Grace Deery-Schmitt
Coach
Grace Deery-Schmitt began her first season with PSS in the 8th grade in 2008. Grace grew up on Bainbridge Island playing multiple sports and picked up lacrosse in 7th grade after her brothers introduced her to the sport. From 2009-2012 Grace played for Bainbridge High School Girls Lacrosse team and was coached by Tami. She and her team went to state every year during her high school career and as a two year captain, won back to back state championships in 2011 and 2012 when she was a junior and senior. As a freshman and sophomore she earned two 2nd team All State awards in defense and midfield and played for the Washington National Team. As a junior and senior she earned two 1st team All State awards for midfield and was named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2012. Grace attended Boston University to become a teacher and played in a women’s Boston lacrosse league at Harvard. In her summers off, she coached Bainbridge lacrosse youth camps and teams. Grace moved back to Seattle in 2019 to complete her M.Ed at the University of Washington. She is currently a 3rd grade teacher in West Seattle, where she also coaches girls youth running. Thanks to CRod, Grace is also a new member of a Seattle Women’s lacrosse league team.
